KANSAS CITY'S SEPTEMBER EVENT
THE PLAZA ART FAIR HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST ART EVENT IN KANSAS CITY SINCE THE NELSON GALLERY WAS FOUNDED. THE 2007 PLAZA ART FAIR WAS THE 75 TH ANNUAL. IF YOU ARE PASSING THROUGH THE MIDWEST, DO WHAT I DID LAST YEAR, CHECK INTO A LUXURY HOTEL ON THE PLAZA AND ENJOY A FANTASTIC WEEKEND OF ART, MUSIC AND MEETING PEOPLE. WATERCOLOR PENCILS MAKE ART EASY By Robert L.Huffstutter
There are those who chuckle about producing a watercolor painting with pencils. Perhaps it is too much like coloring book art. In some respects, it is very much akin to crayons and outlined illustrations of subjects we like. But it isn't that easy; or maybe it is that easy. Maybe that's why it is becoming so popular. Believe it or not, it wasn't until a few months ago that I had ever heard of watercolor pencils.
What I like about using watercolor pencils is the ease and mobility of getting it all together for some plein aire kind of art. It is especially enjoyable if you are into sharpening pencils. Be sure to have a good supply of the little red pencil sharpeners. Some are made in Mexico, a few are from Thailand, but most are from China. If you are a sharpener expert, you will spend the extra two dollars for the German version. Is it sharper? The shavings are thinner. The points on the pencils are the same no matter where the blade was made. Trying to
